Like fashion, music and make-up, weddings have trends that change every year. What is trendy today may seem outdated a couple of years from now. We’ve seen hundreds of weddings pass through the doors of our Wicklow wedding venue, the majority of which remain traditional with some trends thrown in for good measure. Talk to us about holding the most special day of your life in one of the premier wedding venues in Ireland, Tulfarris Hotel & Golf resort.
Mates of Honour
These days, a bridal and groom’s wedding party includes more than the traditional male & female-only groups. Today mates of honour, groomsmaids and bridesmales are more popular than ever and in 2023 as expect that trend to grow. Many couples have decided to move away from the traditional hen & stag parties, choosing instead to celebrate together with a large mixed-sex group of friends. This will lead to more diverse – both physically and personally – celebrations for all sexes. This coincides with the trend to have mismatched bridesmaids. Some may choose to move away from dresses and enjoy a fitted suit or jumpsuit. It allows your bridesmaids to show off their style and personality.
Eco-Friendly Wedding Favours
It’s hard to make a wedding completely eco-friendly but favours are an easy way to reduce your impact. While many couples are happy with a donation to charity, a lot of couples would still like to give their guests a physical favour. Eco-friendly versions might include plantable cards, reusable bottles or tote bags or samples of their favourite eco-friendly self-care range. Some have even gone as far as gifting potted plants or edible gifts with biodegradable packaging. Be creative with your favours, they can really make your wedding stand out.
80s Wedding Dresses
If this calls to mind Princess Diana’s gigantic wedding dress, fear not; the 80s have had a modern resurgence. Subtle puff sleeves are back, and ideal for a bride who does not like to show her upper arms. Think voluminous skirts & shorter lengths with over-the-top, super-size accessories. Power suits have made a major comeback too complete with shoulder pads and flared legs – perfectly non-traditional, still chic style choices for alternative brides. If you don’t want to go full 80s, try removable sleeves or a costume change after the pictures.
Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies
After the restrictions over the last couple of years, many restaurants and wedding venues in Ireland had to pivot their business model, adjusting to outdoor dining. This has continued to grow in popularity with more and more wedding ceremonies taking place outside, especially in summer if your venue has an appropriate space. This means there is much more choice of venues for non-church weddings and civil ceremonies.
Tulfarris Hotel is a registered venue for civil ceremonies and has plenty of experience hosting weddings of all shapes and sizes both indoors and outdoors. Our outdoor space is private and beautiful, the perfect backdrop for your wedding and we can customise the space to suit the weather. Speak to one of our team and arrange a visit to our Wicklow wedding venue to be inspired by our space.
Day 2 Celebrations
While this isn’t a new idea, day two celebrations are making a resurgence after a couple of years of covid-induced hiatus. Couples host an extended celebration, usually in the same venue as their wedding party and enjoy the company of their friends and family for a little bit longer. While some extended celebrations might be casual drinks in the hotel bar, others go the whole nine yards with entertainment, catering and music. It’s completely up to you how you want to customise your second-day celebrations.
If you’re hosting a wedding in Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort, our terrace bar is ideal for day 2 parties. It’s comfortable and spacious and we can provide catering to suit your party size and budget. Speak to one of our events coordinators to learn more.
