Our Story

A little bit about us both:

I'm from Maynooth and Philip is from Lacken in Co. Mayo. We met four years ago in Ballina. My father is from Mayo and a lot of my family are from the area. I've since made the move and have been living for almost three years in Mayo.

Our proposal:

We are lucky enough to have a view of Nephin, a mountain in Mayo. I had climbed it when I was a teenager and constantly teased Philip about the fact that he never had despite having a view of it from his front garden and my living 140 miles from it. This came to a head when he insisted I climb it with him. I almost gave up a few times, telling him I had already climbed it and to collect me on the way back down. I persevered and when we made it to the top, he proposed. We can see our home from the top so it was a lovely way to do it.

Something old, something new?

Something old was myself, something new was the dress, the veil was borrowed and there was a blue gem on the sole of my shoe.

Our Big Day

Ceremony, photographs and reception all held in Tulfarris.
We chose the featherblade and hake for main course and the featherblade was the subject of many, many compliments in the days and weeks after the wedding.
Our first dance was Safety Rope by Mick Flannery.
The most memorable moment for me was waiting to enter the ceremony and feeling excitement instead of the nerves I was expecting. Walking up the aisle and joining Philip at the top was particularly memorable, just feeling the wave of happiness that came over me was a particular highlight.

Post Wedding celebrations:

We had a casual few drinks and nibbles in our local in Maynooth. This was an unofficial gathering with no official invites as we didn't want to put any pressure on anybody given the distances they had travelled for the wedding. We had a three day break in West Cork immediately after the wedding and are planning a trip to Thailand in the new year.

Why did we choose Tulfarris?

Tulfarris is a beautiful venue and I am familiar with the staff. I know that the food is second to none. It helped also that very few of our guests had attended weddings there which allowed us to feel we were introducing them to something new. The grounds are beautiful which meant we didn't have to travel for photographs and the Manor House rooms really added to the experience for us.
